Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Heading to PS4 and Xbox One

While this news isn’t directly related to Sega, the fact that a highly requested PSP JRPG is being localized is something definitely worth noting. Today Square-Enix announced that an HD version of the PSP game Final Fantasy Type-0 will be released on the PS4 and Xbox One. Some might remember the #jrpgvita project started by Sony’s Shahid Ahmad, where he asked gamers which JRPG’s they wanted to see localized. Fans of various franchises responded en masse, including the Valkyria Chronicles fans. The PS Vita exclusive Tales of Hearts R was the most requested game, followed by Final Fantasy Type-0 and then Valkyria Chronicles 3.

Earlier this year, Tales of Hearts R was confirmed to get a Western release. Now, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD has also been confirmed for a release in the West. Both Namco-Bandai and Square-Enix thanked the fans for continuing to make their voice heard and convince them to localize the games.

This of course means that out of the top three requested games, only Valkyria Chronicles 3 is still waiting to be localized. Given the genre and the fact that a lot of fans of the original Valkyria Chronicles title for PS3 were disappointed to see the franchise move to the PSP, releasing HD versions of Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 on the new generation of consoles would make sense. While not everyone was pleased to hear FF Type-0 HD isn’t getting a PS Vita version (for now, as Shahid has taken note), I think in the case of Valkyria Chronicles most people wouldn’t mind to see the franchise return to console. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter, so feel free to comment on the article!
