Yakuza Zero TGS Trailer and Info Roundup, Official Website Updated

Tokyo Game Show has been especially interesting for Sega, showing off how busy the company has been as of late. A special panel showcasing Yakuza Zero was held at Tokyo Game Show recently, and another trailer for the game was shown off. Sega also updated the official website for the game. This blog entry from “The Kamuro District”, maintained by longtime fan ThePatrick, should prove most helpful for those looking to learn more about the recent website updates.

To Sega, the influence of bubble-economy booming in late 1980’s Japan is very important to capturing Yakuza Zero. Money is now what is used to level up characters – besides using flashy attacks to earn bonus money, money will fly out of enemies by default as they are being attacked, allowing you to pick up the money for future use. Gematsu writes that generally speaking, more powerful or useful attacks will be more costly.

As previously mentioned in other articles, players can “effectively control the social order” of Kamurocho by expanding one’s personal contacts through renting out property to them. As Kazuma Kiryu, sidequests help expand your social network, which can be used to help establish your control over Kamurocho. In Soutenbori, as Goro Majima you have the option of establishing the premier cabaret club in the city by recruiting women and customizing their appearance to better promote the establishment.

Players also have the option of using the money to purchase gravure videos of female actresses in game. Once purchased, the characters can view these videos in privacy, though how this may effect the game has yet to be discovered. This feature is meant to stand in for the hostess element of past mainline games, and is part of Sega’s desire to make a game that “men can fully enjoy.” Auditions were also held for men earlier this year; we haven’t seen the full meaning of these auditions yet, but last we heard successful candidates should convey a sense of “violence, fortune and spirit.” Perhaps they will serve as random encounters?

The above-linked Gematsu article also notes that, as is custom to Yakuza games, licensed businesses including Don Quijote will be present in Yakuza Zero. Their appearance will be tailored to fit what these establishments looked like in the past. Also, Japanese reggae group Shonan no Kaze will be contributing music to this game.

Lastly, we leave you with this recently revealed trailer that shows off more cutscene segments. Majima was a much different person in the past, it seems. Enjoy!
