We reported on the US launch of the PlayStation TV earlier, but NeoGAF user LittleToaster has now pointed out that some games have been removed from the list of games compatible with the device. Unfortunately, this also includes Valkyria Chronicles 2. The US PS Store does in fact state the game is only compatible with the PS Vita, even though it did actually work if you managed to get the game installed (for which you needed a PS3). It’s unclear at the moment if there’s a workaround to get the game running on the PlayStation TV. In Europe, Valkyria Chronicles 2 can in fact be downloaded on the PS Vita directly from the PS Store and so far it’s still on the list of compatible games for the EU release of the PlayStation TV. It’ll remain to be seen whether or not the EU version will actually be playable or not.
So far, the PlayStation TV seems to be getting a mixed reception. Key problems are the lack of support for applications like NetFlix, the lack of 1080P output and the fact that not all PS Vita (or PSP) games are compatible with the device, including some of the PS Vita’s best reviewed games such as Gravity Rush. Whether or not Sony can actually address these problems and realize the full potential of the device isn’t clear, but progress in the past year has been rather slow.
