Siliconera earlier this week wrote an article about this week’s issue of Famitsu and its coverage of Etrian Odyssey II Untold, detailing a handful of helpful new details.
First, newer players to the Etrian Odyssey franchise may be interested in the return of Picnic Mode from the first Untold game. It’s designed to be a low-difficulty setting for the game that you can choose once you start your playthrough, and in Picnic Mode enemies will deal lower damage than they do at standard difficulty. If your party is wiped out, you can also continue from that point instead of being forced to restart.
Classic Mode in Etrian Odyssey II Untold will feature the return of the Highlander class. The Highlander class debuted in the first Untold game as a silent protagonist assumed by the player, but in this game Highlander appears as a customizable class like other Etrian Odyssey classes.
Not sure how you want to play the game? Etrian Odyssey II Untold features nine save slots (one based on the cartridge itself, the rest saved onto the SD card), so you can not only save some slots for reloading at later dates, but also play the game at varying settings in either Classic or in the new Untold style. To review, the Untold version of the game features characters with defined personalities, attributes, and a host of animated cutscenes to give the games more emphasis on storytelling and characterization. However, players will also be able to choose between Old and New background music options to play through the game.

Also, Gematsu recently linked to three videos highlighting the game’s Classic Mode and Grimoire Systems. Check the videos out below!
The first video demonstrates a player starting up a new game in Classic Mode, also showing off the character class options in the process. From there, the trailer shows off some battle demos and menu interactions as they appear in Classic Mode.
The second video is a quick demonstration of acquiring Grimoires through battle and how the Grimoires can be applied to your characters.
The third video describes the Grimoire trading system and the new recycling system. It seems that In trades, the player can propose more than one item to meet the requirement for a trade: what is necessary for a successful trade is the presentation of an equivalent or higher total item value relative to the item you seek.
Etrian Odyssey II Untold: The Knight of Fafnir is scheduled for Japanese release on November 27, 2014. No word yet has been given on the game’s localization status. Translated information courtesy of Siliconera, featured image courtesy of All Games Beta’s Famitsu scans.
