Shining Resonance Character Battle Videos: Yuuma, Sonia, and Agnam

Shining Resonance is going to be released in Japan on December 11th. Leading up to its release, gamernejp’s YouTube channel is uploading some short character demo videos that highlight certain party members in battle. This post features 30 second videos for Yuuma, Sonia, and Agnam. To check out the videos, continue reading! I’ll also offer my opinion on what sort of battle capabilities these characters seem to have.

Yuuma is a fairly slow melee fighter who seems to excel in crowd control. As Kouryuu Irvan, he retains his aptitude for dealing with large crowds, after seeing some of the previous attacks showcased like his fire breath and rushing attacks. He seems like a character that is perfectly fine to take right into the fray – with some decent defense he could be a potent ally for handling crowds. I feel like this is a straightforward character that anyone could feel comfortable picking up.

Sonia seems like a capable melee fighter all around. The trailer mostly showed off her fast, multi-hitting sword strikes and good movement speed. However, she also seems to have some techniques that have a large area of effect, though these have noticeable activation periods. Most of her techniques also don’t take much MP. Sonia seems to be a character who can easily overwhelm single enemies at a time, but can occasionally take on large crowds when played right.

Agnam seems odd to me. His melee attacking speed and range are moderate, and he does decent enough damage. The ends of his melee combos seem to have noticeable recovery. However, he shines in what seem to be large area-of-effect spells. It’s hard to tell what sort of mechanic this is seeing as the cut-in for the Blaze Storm (the large fire geyser attack) is not seen with other characters. Yuuma has a cut-in sequence when he transforms into Kouryuu, but Blaze Storm is an attack. In any case, the Blaze Storm trapped an enemy for a few hits and lasted a long time. If your party members can keep the other field enemies occupied, Agnam will have more room to wreak havoc.
