Yakuza Zero will receive a companion app for the Vita, as with Yakuza Ishin. Siliconera recently put out an article detailing some of the features available to the Vita app. As it is, the Yakuza games are well known for their generous assortment of minigames, and the Vita app will be upholding that tradition. Continue reading to check them out!
First, there is an underground fight club where you can play as either Majima or Kiryu and beat down enemies to earn some additional money. Additional details on how the game works weren’t disclosed. Perhaps you’ll be able to quit fighting once you’ve successfully beaten an enemy (retaining your earnings), or you might after risk a sum of money on a gauntlet of opponents. Screenshots show a timer near the top of the screen, so you’ll have a limited time to defeat whichever foe you’re up against.
There is also a gambling den or casino available for players who access the companion app: the latter available to Majima and the former is for Kiryu. Games available include blackjack and koi-koi/hanafuda, though it is possible that certain games will be character exclusive. More games than what are listed are expected. Spoils from the game can be transferred to your Yakuza Zero save file; your money in the app exists separately from your Yakuza Zero save file, as if you maintain two separate “accounts.”
The Yakuza Zero app will be available on February 25th on the Japanese Playstation store, ahead of the full game’s March 12th release date. On March 5th, Sega will make available an additional game pack for ¥500, featuring a Super Monkey Ball game (forgive me, I’m unable to verify if this is a port of a previous game or not!), a Sega Mahjong MJ game, the Genesis version of Columns (which, incidentally, received two Sakura Wars-themed spinoff games), and what is apparently a port of a PC game shmup called Special Attack Craft Carrier Beluga, according to Siliconera. While it doesn’t appear to originally be a Sega IP, Sega’s M2 studio is helping with the development of the game for the Yakuza Zero Vita app.
Should the Yakuza Zero Vita app receive enough traffic, the thought of the Vita app receiving continued support seems pretty attractive.
