Valkyria Chronicles Steam Sales Revealed

Ars Technica has posted a list of the sales of the top 400 games on Steam in 2014 and it contains various Sega games, including Valkyria Chronicles which sold a total of 210,299 copies. To put this into perspective, when the game was released on PS3 in the US in 2008, it only sold 33,000 copies in its first month. While the PC version was sold at a lower price, it’s still a very strong performance for PC conversion of a six year old game. In fact, it’s not that far removed from the sales of Alien: Isolation, which sold 329,649 copies. Football Manager 2015 was the top selling game for Sega on Steam with 854,383 copies sold.

These three games were the only Sega games in the top 400, but worth noting is that Space Channel 5: Part 2 and Crazy Taxi (both released in 2012 on Steam) got a huge increase in sales (by a multiplier of 19 and 18 respectively). This probably has something to do with the update that Sega released in September last year, increasing the supported resolutions and adding anti-aliasing support. Hopefully all this means we’ll get to see more Sega games converted to PC (which doesn’t seem too unlikely, given that the company is moving focus towards mobile and digital PC games).
