It appears someone spilled the beans on an upcoming sequel for Project X Zone on 3DS ahead of the game’s official reveal. Italian website e-duesse posted an article detailing some of Bandai Namco’s upcoming games. The list included two new titles, Project X Zone 2: Brave New World and Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Soul. The article has since been edited to remove the two titles, but not before the information was posted on NeoGAF. The Saint Seiya game has already been officially confirmed, and it’s probably only a matter of time until the same is done for Project X Zone 2.
The original game received somewhat mixed reviews, with the main complaint being that the game’s battles are too repetitive and the different chapters (more than 40 in total) too similar. Nonetheless, the presence of memorable characters from so many different Bandai, Capcom, and Sega franchises was a strong selling point. For Sega fans, it was also a rare occasion to see characters from Sakura Wars and the main characters from Valkyria Chronicles 3 appear in a game localized for the English market.
Commercially, the game turned out to be a surprise hit for Bandai Namco in the western market, with the game selling over ten times what they had expected. Now that Atlus have been acquired by Sega-Sammy, perhaps there’s a chance we might get to see some Atlus characters in the sequel?
