SEGA’s 2D fighting game Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax has been released today in the US and the EU on PS Vita and PS3! The PS3 version costs $39.99 / €39,99 and the PS Vita version costs $29.99 / €29.99, and cross-save between those two platforms is supported. The game includes 14 playable characters and 23 assist characters, most originating from various Dengeki Bunko novels but also some from Sega franchises such as Virtua Fighter and Valkyria Chronicles. The game also has several SEGA themed stages, such as a NiGHTS: into Dreams stage. Being a 2D fighting game, online multiplayer is of course supported as well.
What I personally do find unfortunate is that the EU digital-only version contains no bonus items, despite the fact that the US physical version contained an exclusive soundtrack CD. While it’s typical for a physical version of a game to get extra items compared to their digital counterpart (due to the way exclusivity deals are made with retailers), I imagined the lack of physical version in the EU meant Sega was free to add bonus items to the digital version. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. While it’s true that it’s possible to import the US physical version (due to the game being region free), this also means sales for the EU digital version will look weaker than they actually are, and that won’t really help encourage SEGA to put more effort in their EU releases for games like this.
That said, I’ll still be getting the EU digital version to support SEGA’s decision to localize the game. Anyone else planning to buy, or already bought the game? Let us know in the comments!
