Genei Ibun Roku #FE – Extra Skills, New Character and Enemies!

Duo Arts Genei Ibun Roku #FE

This has been another big week for Genei Ibun Roku #FE news, and it stands to reason because in one week from now the game will be released in Japan!

First, this week’s edition of Weekly Famitsu unveiled a new character named Chikaomi Tsurugi. He has a rather ominous look to him. Nintendo has given him a short profile on the Genei Ibun Roku #FE official website’s sub character section. If you haven’t already done so, check out the larger profiles for the  main characters too.

The official website also saw a few other updates. I’ll draw your attention to this Enemy section which features six major Mirage enemies, all themed after one of six colors: green, blue, purple, orange, pink, and red. They’re also named after Fire Emblem characters – from left to right, top to bottom, it’s: Abel, Lon’qu, Aversa, Gangrel, Garrick, and Excellus.

A new trailer for “Extra Skills” was also published below the Enemy section, along with an explanation for how they work. By now you’ve seen some of those exceptionally flashy attack animations in #FE battles – that’s what the Extra Skills are for. It’s within the concept of the game that more spectacular performances will provide benefits for your career, and that’s reflected in these Extra Skills enabling you to acquire more Performa in battles. There are three types listed: Ad-Lib Performance, Special Performance, and Duo Arts. They all have certain trigger conditions and benefits.

Ad-Lib Performances are generally stronger variations of existing Skills, and can attack with wider range and come with additional attack effects. They have a chance of activation upon use of normal Command Skills. Perhaps conceptually similar to a “Critical Hit” but even more powerful. Special Performances, on the other hand, are described as the “super move” of your character. It’s like a Limit Break, or a sure-kill attack. They aren’t all offensive in nature, but they are rare and have the potential to dramatically change the course of battle. Consuming more SP will allow access to a Special Performance. Lastly, Duo Arts are an attack type we’ve seen before in trailers. They’re an extended variation of the Session attacks (where all party members attack enemies in succession) and are activated by inputting a corresponding button prompt during a Session. It looks like the input window is very generous. Sometimes you may also be able to continue your Session attack after the Duo Arts sequence. In the trailer below, the Duo Arts are activated using members of the Sub Cast (as opposed to the active party.)
