SEGA have released a trailer for their upcoming PS4 remaster of Valkyria Chronicles, aptly titled Valkyria Chronicles Remaster. There’s nothing particularly new to see for those who played the original, as the trailer shows off the game’s BLITZ battle system and the DLC that will be included in the game (which had to be bought separately for the PS3 version).
The game’s graphics on PS4 should probably look a bit better than they do in the trailer, if we compare them to the PC version (which didn’t require a particularly powerful system to run in 1080P). However, what seems to be poor compression on the video makes them look rather blurry. Additionally, it seems the in-engine cutscenes are still running in the old PS3 resolution. This was also the case for the PC version. While they were created using the game’s graphics engine, SEGA had still made videos out of them to store them on the PS3 disc. Apparently the original code used to create these scenes wasn’t readily available, so the PC version just used the same video files from the PS3 version. The same now appears to be true for the PS4 version. It’s not a major problem, as you spend most of your time looking at the in-game HD graphics. You can take a look at the trailer below, but do read the note above it concerning a potential spoiler before you do.
Valkyria Chronicles Remaster is scheduled to be released on February 10th in Japan at the price of 4,990 yen, and it will include a demo for Valkyria: Azure Revolution.
WARNING: the trailer does contain a particular scene which may spoil a certain part of the storyline. If you haven’t played the original, you may want to consider not watching the trailer.
