The demo to the latest multi-company crossover strategy game on 3DS, Project X Zone 2, is available on eShop in North America and Europe. The demo can only be played 30 times. When you complete the demo, its save data will net you bonus items when you start the full game. You can replay the demo for different bonus items up to ten times. The catch is that, each time you play, the enemies will become more powerful.
Content in the demo start with a tutorial prologue level for newcomers to understand some of the chaos that is happening during gameplay. Once you complete that stage the demo jumps to Chapter 2, which is set in Yakuza Dead Souls’ infested Kamurocho. Playable characters in this stage include Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine from Resident Evil and of course Yakuza’s Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. I can understand why they picked Dead Souls to represent Yakuza. If they want to connect some franchises together, Dead Souls serves as a nice bridge that holds all the supernatural series together.
Also included in the demo is Chapter 3, set in the Makai realm and featuring Darkstalkers characters Demitri and Morrigan as well as Tekken characters Jin and Kazuya. You will also fight your first boss, B. B. Hood from Darkstalkers.
The gameplay remains largely the same as the previous entry. However, this sequel contains improved pre-battle menus where you can now buy items and use CP to enhance techniques and set additional skills. It is too early to tell from early chapters, but battles do appear to be faster paced this time around. You can speed up the animation of the enemy turns too. The enemies are also quite easy to defeat in the first playthrough of the demo. I am curious how the difficulty is handled in the full game.
Project X Zone 2 is scheduled for a February 16th release in North America, and February 12th in Europe.
