The latest Media Create Sales chart for Japan in the week running from March 21 to 27 has been released, and SEGA’s Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X entered the chart at third place. The game sold 69,438 copies, which is admittedly a low number for a Project DIVA title on the PlayStation Vita. In comparison, Project DIVA F 2nd sold 98,628 copies on the PS Vita in its first week in Japan while Project DIVA f before it sold 159,592 copies. Being the third Project DIVA title on PlayStation Vita there wasn’t much room for improvement technically, which may partially explain the low numbers. It’s also worth noting that the game is still the best selling PS Vita game this week, outselling Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus (21,959 copies) by a wide margin.
It’ll be interesting to see how well the game sells on PlayStation 4 later this year, where the technical upgrade may breathe some new life in the franchise. In addition, the fact that it’s being released for the Americas for both PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 means the sales outside of Japan may make up for the lower sales in Japan. In any case, the fact that Project DIVA X is being localized for the Americas suggests that SEGA of America was pleased with the sales of the previously localized Project DIVA F games. That’s it for now, but I’m playing the Japanese version of Project DIVA X at the moment and will be posting my thoughts on the game later on.
