Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Enters UK Sales Chart at #6

The latest UK All Formats video game sales charts courtesy of Chart-track shows Valkyria Chronicles Remastered debuting at #6, just behind Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright. In the PS4 specific sales chart, it entered at #4. While the game is being sold at a budget price, the game appears to be getting a much better reception this time around than its original release on PS3. Back in 2008, the PS3 version of the game failed to enter the top 40 in the All Formats chart, and only debuted in the PS3 list at #18.

It’s great to see the franchise finally get the recognition it deserved. What SEGA has planned for the Valkyria Chronicles franchise remains to be seen, as Valkyria: Azure Revolution isn’t being positioned as a direct sequel in the Valkyria Chronicles franchise, and as of yet there’s no sign of a potential PC/console port for Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3, or a potential Valkyria Chronicles 4. But what’s certain is that things are certainly looking a lot better now for the franchise than they did some years ago.

I think they priced it right, not the first time you see “remasters” at 40 or even 60 (not pounds), which is a steal just for porting it with the highest PC specs and nothing else. I got mine and I don’t even plan to get a PS4 soon, I would have doubted getting it for the third time if it had another price.

The only reason the original PS3 release (which was critically acclaimed by critics and fans) didn’t sell so well was because SEGA failed to market it. And then SEGA went and made two sequels to the original game (VC3 was actually a spin-off to the 1st game, and it was never localised). Don’t know about VC3, but VC2 was missing a lot of elements (such as Book Mode, original narrator, etc) that made the original such an amazing game – it seemed like a ‘shell’ of the original game, lacking in ‘heart’ and charm. It is a terrible shame that SEGA created an absolutely brilliant new IP, only to simply grind it into the ground. Let’s hope the release of a remastered Valkyria Chronicles is a sign that SEGA has recognised their mistake and are intending to correct it.
