The latest Media Create sales chart in Japan has been released, and it’s probably no surprise to see Persona 5 take the top two spots with respectively its PS4 version (264,793 copies sold) and PS3 version (72,794 copies sold). With a combined total of 337,767 copies, this makes it the strongest first week of sales for a Persona game yet, as the series’ previous record was owned by the original Persona on PlayStation 1 (201,147 copies sold).
The PS4 console itself, boosted by the release of the “PlayStation 4 Persona 5 Starter Limited Pack” containing the new PS4 Slim and Persona 5, sold at total of 96,433 units. However, this follows two weeks of slow sales for the console as stock of the old PS4 ran out, so we’ll probably see a noticeable drop next week. For the complete list of sales, Gematsu has a translated chart, originally from 4gamer.
With the very favorable reviews and the strong sales in Japan, this bodes well for the game’s release of the game in the West on February 14, 2017!
