Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is Now a PlayStation VR Launch Title, 1st Stage Includes 7 Tracks

SEGA of America has announced that the release date of Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is now October 13, which coincides with the launch of Sony’s PlayStation VR headset. Until now, the release date had been planned for October 14, one day after the launch of PS VR. We also received a few new details about the game, in particular the amount of songs in the game as well as the pricing.

Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live
will in fact be a free download on the PlayStation Store, although this base version doesn’t actually contain any content. For that, players will need to purchase Stages which cost $14.99 each (the EU price isn’t know yet). A Season Pass bundle will also be available, which will cost $39.99. While the 1st Stage features Hatsune Miku, the 2nd Stage show will also star Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, and Megurine Luka, while the 3rd Stage performance features MEIKO and KAITO. The first stage will contain the following seven tracks:

In the game, players will be able to experience a VR concert featuring Hatsune Miku, and switch seats using the directional buttons. Various easter eggs can also be unlocked by building up Voltage (featured previously in Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X). This is done by waving a virtual glow stick in time with the music. While it’s not specifically mentioned in the press release, we assume the game is playable using both the regular Dualshock PS4 as well as the PlayStation Move controller (the latter was shown being used in the game’s demo). After progressing through three songs, players will also get a special solo encore performance by Miku. Each concert features three songs, and for each one players can choose one of two songs for Miku to perform. Afterwards, if you helped build up the hype during the concert well enough, you may also receive a special encore solo performance from Miku.

With a total 7 songs, it seems it’ll be possible to view all of the performances by Miku rather quickly. To what extent the gameplay and easter eggs will offer an incentive to revisit the game remains to be seen, but at a budget price of $14.99 the 1st Stage seems well worth checking out for anyone interested in checking out what a virtual concert on PlayStation VR looks like. We’ll also be posting our impressions on the game as soon as we get to play it (which should be on the PS VR launch day)!

UPDATE: a bit more information has surfaced via Sam Mullen’s blog post on the official EU and US PlayStation blog. Apparently a trial version featuring one song will be made available for free at the same time when the full game is released. The VR patch for Hatsune Miku; Project DIVA X, which enables you to watch concerts in VR after creating them using the game’s Concert Editor, will also launch along with PlayStation VR. In the comments on the US blog, PR manager John Hardin also mentions that each stage will contain 7 songs, bringing the total to 21 if you purchase all three stages.
