The new Media Create sales results are in, and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has topped the video game sales chart in Japan its first week by selling a total of 218,168 copies. It’s a low sales number for the PlayStation 4 exclusive game if we compare it to previous entries in the series, but one has to note that console sales in Japan have been on the decline for a while now. Back in 2012, Yakuza 5 sold 356,757 copies in its first week on the PlayStation 3.
Further down the list we find Puyo Puyo Chronicle, which entered the chart at #8 with 13,873 copies, a number that is also lower than the 44,627 copies Puyo Puyo Tetris sold in its first week. Perhaps that’s actually all the more reason to try and bring the game to the West, where Puyo Puyo fans have been very vocal in asking SEGA to release the game. In a recent interview, Puyo Puyo series producer Hosoyamada Mizuki has also acknowledged that fans overseas have been asking them to release Puyo Puyo games in the West. Yakuza 6 has already been confirmed for release in the West at PSX 2016.
