Valkyria: Azure Revolution Gets First Demo Footage, New Screenshots and Characters
Bundled with the release in Japan of Valkyria Chronicles: Remaster was a battle demo for Valkyria: Azure Revolution. The first footage of the demo has appeared online, offering us a good view of the game’s action-RPG combat mechanics. These can be split into two main parts: ranged and close quarter combat (where your characters switch to melee weapons). The game transitions into close quarter combat when you get close to the enemy. If you ambush and hit the enemy from afar before closing in and entering close quarter combat, you will trigger a “Good Situation”, giving you an advantage over the enemy. On the other hand, simply rushing in will trigger a “Bad Situation”. For more information on how this works, look up our notes on “Reactions” in our previous article.
SEGA Announces Project DIVA X and Air Do Partnership
As we could already see near the end of the latest promotional video, SEGA will be partnering with Japanese airline “Air Do” for the release of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X. Pre-orders (including digital downloads) and first print runs of the game will come with a code to unlock a special “CA Style A” module for Hatsune Miku, giving her a rather classy flight attendant uniform.
Take a Look at the SEGA Figures Shown at Wonfes 2016
Wonder Festival 2016 Winter has come and gone, revealing plenty of new anime and video game related figures. Those of course also include figures based on SEGA and Atlus games. SEGA and the companies behind the figures have been posting their figures shown at Wonfes on their social media, and we compiled as many as possible in this article, and included links to our official source for the images. For this article, we’ll be focusing on the figures and announcements related to SEGA franchises (we’ll be making a separate article for the ones from Atlus). Fair warning: some of the figures and illustrations are rather risqué.
SEGA Releases New Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X Promotional Trailer
SEGA of Japan have released a promotional trailer for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X, showing us an overview of everything the game has to offer. This includes the event quests, elements, free play mode, modules, etc. For more information on these and other features in the game, be sure to check out all our previous articles. You can take a look at the trailer below!
The Latest Project DIVA X Update Talks About Character Communication
SEGA of Japan have recently released another update for Project DIVA X, detailing more of the game’s features and also revealing some screenshots of the songs and modules that were revealed in the latest Famitsu.
The “Home” screen shown below is the main starting point for the game’s Live Quest Mode, There, you can spend time talking to one of the Vocaloids featured in the game, and also transition to the” Area Select” screen.
In addition, you can customize the room using a variety of different themes.
As you progress through the game, various events will occur in the Home screen. Meeting certain conditions will unlock Event Quests, and some of these will also be character-specific.
Playing the rhythm game is linked to communicating with your characters. In other words, playing the game will bring you closer to the characters. Increasing your familiarity with the characters will give you small advantages in your quests. One way of achieving that is by giving gifts to your character, which can be obtained by playing the rhythm game. A wide variety of items can be gifted (food, toys, decoration, music, etc.). The reaction you get when you gift the items can range from “not pleased” to “very happy”.
In addition, the events that occur may differ depending on the item. So getting to see different reactions and events involves gifting various items.
Meet certain conditions and a special gift event will occur. The dialogue will give you hints to what the perfect gift is that you need to present to your character. Pick the right one and it will greatly increase your familiarity with the character.
As mentioned earlier, some of the gifts are also decorations that you can use to customize the room in the Home screen.
In our previous articles we talked about how modules are linked to one of the game’s five elements. Interestingly, the module that your character is wearing in the Home screen also influences their behavior and reactions. A “cool” module will have your character behave, you guessed it, in a “cool” way.
The PS Vita’s touch screen is also used here, as you can “poke” the character on the screen. This will also result in a different reaction depending on the module the character is wearing. It appears in the case of the “Chaos” module, your character is not amused.
On to the new screenshots of the rhythm songs and modules!
Solitary Hide & Seek Envy (“Hitorinbo Envii”), by Denpol-P (Element: Cool)
Coward Fighters Urotander (“Hikyou Sentai Urotander”), by Shin-P (Element: Chaos)
Cute Medley – Idol Sounds
This new medley, arranged by Mitchie-M, contains the following songs:

- Freely Tomorrow
- Viva Happy
- Ageage Again
- Blooming The Idol (Idol wo Sakase)
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X will be released on the PS Vita in Japan on March 24, 2016 followed by a release on the PS4 in Fall 2016. No Western localization has been announced, but given SEGA of America’s latest efforts in bringing games from Japan overseas, there should be a good chance that this game will make it to the West.
