Valkyria Chronicles PC Will Have +1080P Resolutions, 60FPS and Remappable Controls

On Twitter, Sega replied to questions from fans who were worried about Valkyria Chronicles receiving a subpar PC port (like the recent release of FF XIII). It seems those fears were unfounded, as Sega reassured fans by confirming that the game will have native support for 720P/1080P or higher resolutions, 60FPS, keyboard/mouse support and also configurable controls. If accurate, and judging from previous Sega PC ports we have no reason to believe they aren’t, we’re looking at a solid PC port.

From what we’ve seen on the first screenshots, the assets (textures, 3D models, …) remain exactly the same as those of the PS3 version. Given the game’s art style however, this shouldn’t be a problem. As we’ve seen from the PC version of Jet Set Radio, higher resolution textures are not necessarily required to make cel-shaded games look up to date on modern hardware. The higher resolutions will also make it possible to significantly reduce the aliasing, which at times was very noticeable in the original 720P PS3 version. Sega also mentioned that more details will be revealed as we get closer to the release of the game on November 11, 2014.

Sega Reveals Valkyria Chronicles PC Launch Date and Pre-Order Details

Sega has issued a press release giving us more details about the upcoming PC version of Valkyria Chronicles. The game will be available as a digital download from select digital retailers for a price of £14.99/€19.99/$19.99, and will be launched on November 11, 2014. It will also include all the DLC that was available for the original PlayStation 3 game (Hard EX Mode, Edy’s Mission “Enter the Edy Detachment”, Selveria’s Mission “Behind Her Blue Flame” and Challenge of the Edy Detachment). And if that wasn’t enough value for money, you can also get a discount if you preorder the game from certain retailers. You get a 10% discount when pre-ordering from Steam, or as our friends at SEGAbits pointed out, even a 25% discount when pre-ordering at Get Games.

Valkyria Chronicles Heading to PC (EDIT: Officially Confirmed by Sega!)

if this PEGI rating is any indication, it seems Valkyria Chronicles may actually be getting a PC version. This would certainly come as a surprise, even though Valkyria Chronicles proved to be a popular request in the recent PC ports campaign, where fans asked Sega to port more of their console games to the PC.

It’s probably best not to get too excited just yet, given that this is far from an official announcement. But if the game does end up being released on PC, it would certainly give the fans a chance to revive the franchise and convince Sega to localize Valkyria Chronicles 3. The fact is that the idea for this very website was first discussed on the official Valkyria Chronicles forums. Suffice to say that this franchise is very important to us, and we’d definitely do everything we can to support a PC release of the game. Fingers crossed!

EDIT: Sega just confirmed that the game is in fact coming to PC!

Sega Releases New Pre-Order Trailer for Project Diva F 2nd

Sega has released a new trailer for Project Diva F 2nd to promote the US Gamestop pre-order bonuses. Pre-ordering the game at Gamestop will grant you access to the Extra Character Pack DLC which features Akita Neru, Yowane Haku, and Kasane Teto. Worth noting is that people who had already bought the character DLC for the original Project Diva F (or Project Diva f) will also get these characters for free. Aside from the characters, you’ll also get the Americana module (which is also available from some other retailers as well).

A Closer Look at the Persona Q Limited Editions

Atlus recently revealed more details on the two special editions of Persona Q that can be preordered at select retailers. The Limited Standard Edition will be released in the US for $49.99, and contains the actual game, 11 Tarot cards and a Collectible Box. The Wild Cards Premium Edition contains the same extras as the Limited Standard Edition, but also includes a soundtrack CD, art book and a Nintendo 3DS XL case. The price for the Wild Cards edition is $79.99. The other set of 11 Tarot cards comes with the other Persona game that’s recently been released in the US (and soon to be released in Europe): Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. A mock-up of both Persona Q editions can be seen below:

Valkyria Chronicles 2 Removed from US PlayStation TV Compatibility List

We reported on the US launch of the PlayStation TV earlier, but NeoGAF user LittleToaster has now pointed out that some games have been removed from the list of games compatible with the device. Unfortunately, this also includes Valkyria Chronicles 2. The US PS Store does in fact state the game is only compatible with the PS Vita, even though it did actually work if you managed to get the game installed (for which you needed a PS3). It’s unclear at the moment if there’s a workaround to get the game running on the PlayStation TV. In Europe, Valkyria Chronicles 2 can in fact be downloaded on the PS Vita directly from the PS Store and so far it’s still on the list of compatible games for the EU release of the PlayStation TV. It’ll remain to be seen whether or not the EU version will actually be playable or not.

So far, the PlayStation TV seems to be getting a mixed reception. Key problems are the lack of support for applications like NetFlix, the lack of 1080P output and the fact that not all PS Vita (or PSP) games are compatible with the device, including some of the PS Vita’s best reviewed games such as Gravity Rush. Whether or not Sony can actually address these problems and realize the full potential of the device isn’t clear, but progress in the past year has been rather slow.

Project Diva F Gets a 40% Discount on the EU PS Store

Sony has revealed a new batch of discounted games for their “Deals of the Week”, and it includes one of the Sega games that, as far as I’m aware, has not received any other discounts since its release. The game in question is Project Diva F, which happens to be one of the few Japanese Sega games that have been localized in recent years. It’s good to see the game get a discount, given how long it’s been available. It’s worth noting that the game has only been released digitally in Europe, so that means anyone that wanted to acquire the EU version had to buy it at full price from the PS Store. This discount means more people will get to play the game and hopefully convince them to buy the upcoming sequel Project Diva F 2nd. Below you’ll find the new prices for both the PS Vita and PS3 versions of the game. Note that the sales end on the 21st of October, so you only have one week to buy the game at the discounted price.

PlayStation TV Launches in North America

Sony’s PlayStation TV has finally reached North America today. The regular version costs $99.99, but there’s also a bundle that includes the PS TV, a DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card, and a voucher for The Lego Movie Videogame for $139.99. The small device allows people to play a large number of games from different Sony platforms on your TV, ranging from games on the PS Vita (unfortunately not all of them work), PSone , PSP, PS3 (through streaming on PlayStation Now), and PS4 (Remote Play functionality).

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Fan Edition Announced for Europe

Although Sega Europe was already confirmed to be handling the publishing of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, it’s now been revealed that there will be a special edition of the game called Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Fan edition. Unfortunately, like the Persona Q limited edition, this Persona 4 Ultimax Fan edition will also be a retailer exclusive. The special edition can only be ordered from Rice Digital, and contains a T-Shirt (of which the design will be determined through a community vote) and the first set of Tarot cards (the second set is included in NISA’s Persona Q Wild Cards edition).
