Chain Chronicles Will be Getting a TV Anime Series

A lot of mobile game announcements are coming from Sega Networks’ Fan Kanshasai Festival today, and one of them is that Chain Chronicles, after already getting an 8-episode OVA in 2014, will also be getting its own TV anime series called “Chain Chronicles: Hekuseitasu no Hikari”, which can be translated as “Chain Chronicles: Light of Haecceitas”. The “Haecceitas” part is actually Latin, and refers to the “essence” of a person, or what makes that person an individual.

The trailer actually looks quite impressive, not only showing high-quality animation but also CG that doesn’t look out of place (too often the use of CG in anime can produce some very awkward results). But unfortunately whoever encoded the video didn’t do a particularly good job. There are a ton of interlacing artifacts remaining, which completely ruins the image quality of an otherwise great looking trailer.

Yakuza 0 Announcement

More Yakuza 0 Details Revealed While Confusion Abounds Over EU Release

We’re getting some mixed messages over a potential EU release for Yakuza 0. While SEGA’s official Twitter account mentioned that they’re unable to confirm a EU release, Eurogamer pointed out that the trailer featured on the official PlayStation Youtube channel clearly mentions the game is coming to Europe as well. On the other hand, the US trailer on the official Sega of America Youtube channel only mentions the release for the Americas. It’s certainly odd to see the conflicting statements, so we hope SEGA will clarify the situation soon.

Sega-Sammy Holdings

Sega-Sammy Slashes Profits Forecast by 90% for This Fiscal Year

Sega-Sammy Holdings Inc. has announced that it will be adjusting the profit forecast for this fiscal year, ending March 2016. While the company expected a 19,000 million yen profit (~154 million USD), it now expects to earn only 2,000 million yen (~16 million USD). Sega-Sammy Holding’s CEO Hajime Satomi recently apologized to shareholders and investors for the Group’s failure to meet their targets for the third consecutive year.

Sega-Sammy’s primary source of income remains the Pachislot and Pachinko Machines Business, but it hasn’t been performing quite as well as it did before. However, it’s the Entertainment Contents business that really underperformed for Sega-Sammy. In their official statement, the company points out three main reasons for these disappointing results. One is the delay of key titles (such as Persona 5). Secondly, some newly released titles did not meet expectations (though they didn’t state which ones). Lastly, there’s the increasing competition in the mobile games market. Mobile games were typically cheap and fast to produce relative to their console counterparts, but this situation is rapidly changing. Sega-Sammy points out that people expect higher-quality content now, and this leads to longer development times.

To reverse the situation, Sega-Sammy points out their recent efforts in their structural reform to improve profitability, and they will be discussing further initiatives internally that target all of their businesses. They plan to present the entire overview when they announce their full year results for the fiscal year ending March 2016 (scheduled in May 2016).

SEGA’s “Liberation of the Blue Sky” Turns Out to be a Mobile RPG

SEGA recently registered a trademark for “Soukuu no Liberation” (‘Liberation of the Blue Sky’), which had people speculating about what game the title could be referring to. SEGA has now officially revealed the game, and it turns out to be a new mobile RPG for iOS and Android. This probably won’t be too much of a surprise, given how SEGA has been churning out a lot of mobile games over the past years. The story involves the hero “Loran” as he attempts to lead an army to retake the Imperial city from an invading force. He signs a contract with Queen Rivera from the Underworld (who appears to be another major character in the game) which gives Loran access to a power to crystallize monsters.
