Sega Closes Doors on Valkyria Chronicles Duel

Sega and NHN’s Japan-only free-to-play mobile and browser game Valkyria Chronicles Duel, which launched in July 2012, is scheduled to end operation on April 22. Unlike its predecessors, the game was essentially a card-battle game without an actual storyline. The goal was primarily to collect cards of the characters featured in the three original Valkyria Chronicles games and to use those cards to build a squad, which you then pit against your opponent’s squad in an effort to take control over their territory. The fight was then visualized in a short 3D battle scene. There was also a limited base-management aspect to the game where you could build and upgrade facilities.

Valkyria Chronicles Steam Sales Revealed

Ars Technica has posted a list of the sales of the top 400 games on Steam in 2014 and it contains various Sega games, including Valkyria Chronicles which sold a total of 210,299 copies. To put this into perspective, when the game was released on PS3 in the US in 2008, it only sold 33,000 copies in its first month. While the PC version was sold at a lower price, it’s still a very strong performance for PC conversion of a six year old game. In fact, it’s not that far removed from the sales of Alien: Isolation, which sold 329,649 copies. Football Manager 2015 was the top selling game for Sega on Steam with 854,383 copies sold.

These three games were the only Sega games in the top 400, but worth noting is that Space Channel 5: Part 2 and Crazy Taxi (both released in 2012 on Steam) got a huge increase in sales (by a multiplier of 19 and 18 respectively). This probably has something to do with the update that Sega released in September last year, increasing the supported resolutions and adding anti-aliasing support. Hopefully all this means we’ll get to see more Sega games converted to PC (which doesn’t seem too unlikely, given that the company is moving focus towards mobile and digital PC games).

Atlus has revealed another character trailer for Persona 4: Dancing All Night, this time featuring Kanami Mashita. While her character was only mentioned by name in Persona 4, she’ll now be one of the playable characters in Persona 4: Dancing All Night. Kanami is an idol working for the same company as Rise, and became more popular after Rise’s (temporary) retirement. She’s also one of the five members of the idol group “Kanamin Kitchen”. You can watch her character trailer below. Siliconera also has a summary of what’s being said in the trailer.

Operation 422: A Renewed Campaign to Bring Valkyria Chronicles 3 to the West

NeoGAF user CertifiedFP has started a new campaign titled “Operation 422”, aimed at bringing Valkyria Chronicles 3 to the West. Rather than using a petition, the campaign aims to focus on social media to convince Sega to localize Valkyria Chronicles 3 on any non-PSP platform. You can read the campaign’s manifesto below. You can also find more details on the campaign and how to support it in the original NeoGAF thread.

Sega Reveals New Project DIVA F 2nd DLC for February

Sega has announced the new Project Diva F 2nd DLC for February. The new DLC that’s already available today for the US includes the Rhythm Game Song “Rolling Girl” by wowaka and the three costumes “Chinese Debut”, “Mikudayo” and “Rolling Girl”. Additionally, two skins, “Kaito (Flower)” and “Crimson Leaf”, have also been made available (these are free for the first 39 days after release). As usual, this DLC will probably be available tomorrow for the EU.

Another batch of DLC will be released on February 17, and includes the Rhythm Game Songs “Change Me” by shu-t and “Yellow” by kz(livetune) together with the Costume Modules “Sweet Pudding” and “Yellow” for Hatsune Miku and “Lin Xiao-Mei” for Meiko.

Yakuza 4 Included in Free PlayStation Plus Games for Februari

Sony has announced the lineup of free games in February for PlayStation Plus members, and Yakuza 4 is part of it! The lineup of games is the same for both North-America and Europe this time around, and aside from Yakuza 4 also includes Transistor (PS4), Apotheon (PS4), Thief (PS3), Rogue Legacy (PS Vita|PS4|PS3) and Kick & Fennick (PS Vita). It’s great to see Sega and Sony include Yakuza 4 in the lineup, as this is a great way of introducing the franchise to a wider audience. It also serves as a way to promote the upcoming release of Yakuza 5 later this year.

Along with the other games, Yakuza 4 will be made available to PlayStation Plus members on the 4th of February.

New DLC for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd Releases This Week

Sega has announced the latest batch of DLC for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd, which will be made available this week. The update contains two Rhythm Game Songs: Sekiranun Graffiti by ryo and Ai Kotoba by DECO*27. It also contains another set of Costume Modules (six in total). This time around, there are costumes for Akita Neru, Yowane Haku and Kasane Teto. These are actually Vocaloids that aren’t in the regular game but are available as DLC. Aside from them, Meiko also gets one new costume while Hatsune Miku gets two. Sega is again selling a bundle of these costumes but these don’t include the Miku DLC (one of which is the “official” costume for Sekuranun Graffiti, while the other is the Type 2020 remake as seen in the featured image of the article). Five downloadable skins (only free for the first 39 days after release) have also been made available.

The DLC appears to be available now for the US and presumably tomorrow for the EU, but if you’re interested in buying the DLC, it might be worth noting that Sony will be providing a one-time 10% discount code in a total cart purchase to everyone impacted by the PSN outage at the end of last year. The discount code will be valid from January 23rd until January 26th. I believe this also applies to any Project DIVA F 2nd DLC, so if you’re thinking of buying the Song Club or even Costume Club Season Pass or any individual costumes or songs, you may want to wait a few days before purchasing the DLC.
