GoGame Is Asking Fans for Support to Bring Chain Chronicle Back to the West
A few years ago, SEGA and Gumi announced a partnership to bring SEGA’s mobile games to the West, beginning with SEGA’s biggest mobile hit in Japan: Chain Chronicle. Unfortunately, things apparently didn’t work out between the two companies, and Gumi ended up shutting down Chain Chronicle on Feburary 29th, 2016. A fan petition was created to try and save the game, but seemingly to no avail. At least until now, as the long abandoned official Facebook page for the game suddenly showed a sign of life with a new message from the game’s mascot, Pirika:
SEGA Responds to Questions Regarding SEGA Forever’s Launch Problems
Following the launch of SEGA Forever, SEGA’s new mobile service which aims to revolutionize retro gaming on mobile, it quickly became apparent that the emulation of their first batch of games was less than optimal. In particular, DigitalFoundry’s John Linneman told people to stay away from the games altogether, noting the poor performance of the new Unity wrapper used in 90% of the games. Now, SEGA’s Mike Evans has addressed a number of questions from Eurogamer in a rather harsh interview. Reading the interview, I have mixed thoughts about both some of Mike Evan’s answers as well as Eurogamer’s questions.
SEGA’s Mike Evans Discusses Future Plans for SEGA Forever, Including Saturn and Dreamcast Ports
SEGA have officially launched SEGA Forever for iOS and Android today, a service that will offer a growing collection of free (ad-supported) retro SEGA games from a large number of old SEGA platform, with the option of buying each game for $1.99/€1.99 to remove the ads. The games also include new additions like leaderboards, cloud saves and controller support. In an interview with MVC UK, Mike Evans explains how SEGA Forever is really only the first step of their project. Where things get interesting is when he discusses expanding the scope of the project, mentioning the Switch as a possible platform.

SEGA’s Mobile Game Liberasion of Azure is Getting a Golden Axe Collaboration Event
Liberasion of Azure (which we also referred to as Liberation of the Blue Sky in earlier articles) has been one of SEGA’s more interesting mobile games in Japan, as its 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up gameplay sets it apart from the countless tower defense RPGs typically found on the platform. Today we learned a bit more about a previously unveiled crossover event between this game and the iconic Golden Axe series.
SEGA’s New Mobile Game Soul Reverse Zero Surpasses 1 Million Downloads in Japan
SEGA of Japan has announced that the combined total downloads of their new mobile game Soul Reverse Zero have surpassed the one million mark. The game was released last month in Japan for iOS and Android. It’s looking like a very good start for the game if you consider that Chain Chronicle, one of SEGA’s most successful mobile games so far, has reached 5 million downloads in its lifetime.
SEGA of Japan Releases New Trailer for Their Upcoming Mobile Game Star Horse Pocket
As part of its initiative to add connectivity between their arcade and mobile games, SEGA will be releasing a mobile version of their long-running Star Horse arcade games, titled Star Horse Pocket, in Japan. The arcade versions of Star Horse are a mix between a horse racing simulation and betting game, and it looks like the mobile game will feature similar mechanics. That said, the mobile version of the game will also feature five female characters who will apparently serve as your secretaries. The character art may look familiar to fans of the recent games in the Shining franchise, as they were drawn by the same artist: Tony Taka. You can find images of all five characters below, along with the two trailers for the game. The official website for the game can be found here.
Soul Reverse Zero Now Available for iOS and Android in Japan
SEGA of Japan have released their latest mobile RPG Soul Reverse Zero for iOS and Android in Japan today. Much like SEGA’s own Chain Chronicle the game has a turn-based battle system, but the graphics and animation offer a considerable upgrade compared to SEGA’s previous mobile outings. The game managed to reach up to 450,000 pre-registrations leading up to its release, more than doubling SEGA’s initial expectations. You can watch the extended version of the animated trailer below, as well as an earlier gameplay trailer.
