Project DIVA X - Luka's Birthday

SEGA Releases New Project DIVA X Video to Celebrate Luka’s Birthday

To celebrate Vocaloid Luka’s birthday, SEGA of Japan have released a new gameplay video featuring two songs from Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X: “Identity” (Ai Dee), by Mitchie M and “Crimson Leaf” (Akahitoha), by Kurousa-P. They’ve also released three wallpapers of Luka, which each show her character in a different design, depending on the game she was featured in (Project DIVA X, Project DIVA Arcade Future Tone and Project Mirai). You can view the wallpapers below. You can also get smaller resolutions (usable on your smartphone) of the wallpapers on the official SEGA feat. Hatsune Miku Project website, which received a new Luka theme for the occasion.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X will be released on the PS Vita in Japan on March 24, 2016 followed by a release on the PS4 in Fall 2016. At this point, there’s been no word from SEGA on whether or not the game will be localized. Nonetheless, there’s still a good chance the game will be released in the West, given that Project DIVA F, Project DIVA F2nd and Project Mirai DX were all localized for the English market.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X Update Shows New Songs, Free Play & Live Edit Mode

The latest Project DIVA X update provides us with details about the game’s Free Play mode and Live Edit Mode, while also showing us some screenshots and character outfits for the songs announced in the latest issue of Famitsu. Read on for the details!

Free Play Mode

The game’s Free Play mode offers pretty much the same experience as in the past Project DIVA games. Here, there are no quests or elements tied to songs. Instead, you’re free to select the song and modules of your choice. Like in the old games, you have a Song Energy Gauge determining the rank you get when you clear (or fail to clear) the song.

Project DIVA X Free PlayHelp Items and Challenge Items also make a return in Free Play mode. Using these can help make the song easier, or more difficult, to clear.

Project DIVA X Free Play - Help Items Any modules and accessories unlocked in Live Quest Mode can be used in Free Play mode. That said, it’s not entirely clear to me if you’re actually required to play quests in Live Quests Mode to unlock modules and accessories here.

In Live Quest Mode, sometimes new Modules can “drop” during Chance Time, in which case you’ll see your character transform into that new module while you’re playing the song. But in Free Play Mode, modules won’t drop. Instead, you can actually select the module that you want the character to transform into. If you want, you can also disable the transformation altogether.

Live Edit Mode

The Live Edit Mode is an improved version of the Edit Mode in other Project DIVA games. Below, you can see the example of an edit screen, allowing you to set lighting and camera angles on the song’s timeline.

Instead of having you do everything manually, setting the different camera angles is made easier by allowing you to select from a range of presets for the stage.

You can also add a “one-shot production” which features effects such as feathers or petals flying in the wind. Each stage will have different one-shot productions. You can also change the timing of the transformation effect we talked about earlier.

The look of the entire stage can be changed based on a list of “stage productions”, and you can also change the lighting freely. In order to use the Live Edit mode of the PS Vita version, players will need to download the free “Live Edit Start Pack” from the Japanese PlayStation Store.

Lastly, here are the screenshots for the newly announced songs (and their modules), as well as the reveal of a new Medley.

“The Name of the Sin” (Tsumi no namae), by ryo (Element: Neutral)

“The First Melody” (Hajimete no Oto), by malo (Element: Neutral)

Project DIVA X - The First Sound

“Crimson Leaf” (Akahitoha), by Kurousa-P (Element: Beauty)

“Identity” (Ai Dee), by Mitchie M (Element: Beauty)

Cool Medley – Cyber Rock Jam

This newly revealed medley for the “Cool” area contains the following songs:

  • Unhappy Refrain, by wowoka
  • Don’t Mylist Me! (Mairisu Dame!), by Live-P
  • Tengaku (Tengaku), by Yuuyu-P
  • Palette, by Yuyoyuppe
  • This Messed-Up Wonderful World Exists For Me (Kono Fuzaketa Subarashiki Sekai wa, Boku no Tame ni Aru), by n.k

That’s all for now! Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X is scheduled for a release on the PS Vita in Japan on March 24, 2016 followed by a release on the PS4 in Fall 2016.

Project DIVA Demos (Including Future Tone!) Playable at Snow Miku 2016

Sega has announced that Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X (Vita version), Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (3DS), and the Arcade and PS4 versions of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone will be playable at Snow Miku 2016. Future Tone was announced at Tokyo Game Show last year, as a port of an arcade game. We haven’t heard much about the game since it was announced, but it’s also a port so this may be somewhat expected. “Ren’ai Saiban” by 40mP and “Chaos Medley  ~Giga remix~” by Giga-P will be playable songs, and for Project Mirai DX the playable songs will be “Senbonzakura” by KurousaP and “Ii-Aru Fanclub” by MikitoP. No song-specific demo information seems to be offered for the Future Tone demo units.

Some of you may be aware of Snow Miku as a Vocaloid or Hatsune Miku fan, but this year’s Snow Miku is also notable for Love Live! fans, as the franchise is cross-promoting with Snow Miku this year. Snow Miku is an annual winter-based festival for Hatsune Miku that takes place in Hokkaido, where original Vocaloid developers Crypton Future Media are based. It’s a big festival for Miku in particular, but as for the Love Live characters, snow sculptures and special promotional art is planned, with themed goods likely to come, too.

Here’s why the Latest Project DIVA X Videos on Youtube Are Blocked in the US

Recently, some people have found themselves unable to view Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X videos on SEGA of Japan’s Youtube channel (which we’ve been including in our articles). The videos in question have been region-locked to prevent people in the US from viewing them. While this may be old news, it appears there’s still some confusion about who’s actually responsible for this. I’d like to point out that, at least in this case, SEGA doesn’t have anything to do with the region lock. Instead, it’s actually Youtube who have started region-blocking these videos ever since they started rolling out their new subscription service, Youtube Red. This new $9.99 monthly subscription allows people to view videos without any ads and download them for offline viewing.

Here's the message you'll get when you try to view the latest Project DIVA X video from the US.

Here’s the message you’ll get when you try to view the latest Project DIVA X video from the US.

However, companies who have not agreed to the new terms of use for Youtube Red, and who are currently earning ad revenue from their Youtube videos, will find that their videos are now being blocked in the US. In this case, the Project DIVA X videos contain content from labels such as EXIT TUNES and Incstoenterinc. But like many other Japanese companies, they have not yet agreed to the new terms. At the moment,  Youtube Red is only available in the US, which is also why the videos are still available for viewing elsewhere. That said, Youtube plans to make Youtube Red available for other regions as well in 2016.

It’s of course disappointing to see this happen. It has been difficult enough to get Japanese companies like SEGA to allow their fans to upload their gameplay videos on Youtube. This move from Youtube only complicates matters further. That said, Vocaloid music composer Chrusher-P noted that Exit Tunes are doing their best to resolve the situation, so let’s hope they and other parties involved can iron things out with Youtube. In the meanwhile we’ll be including links to the NicoNico version of Project DIVA X videos in our articles, since those aren’t region-blocked.
