SMT IV Final Krishna

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final Full Website Debut

Atlus has given their Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final website a full unveiling. It’s actually a pretty unique presentation; there are some cool touches here. Some of you may have seen long, scrolling webpages before, but each section has their own background, and everything after the Concept section features animated backgrounds. Each character also has a short trailer attached next to them, in addition to some battle demos. There’s no music available on the site, but that may change later. The buttons available towards the bottom of the site allow you to preorder the game through an assortment of retail outlets.

The core of the story is as follows: the war between gods (Merkabah of Law, and Lucifer of Chaos) in Tokyo is devastating the city, and the arrival of Krishna who represents a path of polytheism seems set to only escalate the destruction. You, as the protagonist and member of the counter-demon group Outlaw Hunters, are killed by a stray demon one day but later receive the power to summon them after forging a contract with Daguza while in the underworld. With this power, you may grow into someone who can change the current path of events.

So…what will you do? This epic could be pretty sweet!

Stella Glow English “Witches” Trailer, Demo Planned for October 27 Release

Atlus has released a new trailer for Stella Glow‘s upcoming North American (November 17!) release. It features the four “good witches” of Stella Glow: Lisette, Sakuya, Popo, and Mordimort. They are themed after classical elements, and feature colorful personalities of their own. Frequent readers of our site may remember that the Japanese promotional phase for Stella Glow saw individual trailers for the witches, but this is essentially the same thing.

In addition to releasing a trailer, Atlus have announced the release of the Stella Glow demo for North America. It’s set to be available on October 27, and allows players to test out the prologue chapter of the game. However, data can’t be carried over to the full release as was the case with such games as The Legend of Legacy (which was released earlier this week in North America, by the way.) Perhaps it’s just me, but carrying over data from demos to a full game of RPGs recently seems to feel closer to the norm than away from it. Nevertheless it’s better to be informed of whether or not such a feature will be available!

First Shin Megami Tensei IV Final PV!

Atlus has concluded their stream for Shin Megami Tensei IV Final, and with it comes the arrival of its first promotional video.

We have a little more details on this game. There is a conflict between monotheism and polytheism woven into the story. The course of the plot follows one central progression (not necessarily adhering to the standard law-chaos-neutral trifecta,) but still allows for multiple endings. The protagonist is completely silent this time; previously in Shin Megami Tensei IV most dialogue scenes were voiced though not all of the script received voicing.

Gameplay-wise, the system from Shin Megami Tensei IV is receiving a variety of additions and touches. A notable change is the introduction of the Partner and Assist Attack systems in battle. Partners are human characters who can assist you during battle. In addition, the game will feature more than 450 demons, with some previously absent demons (like the Mermaid) returning. Carryovers from Shin Megami Tensei IV will also receive balance changes to their stats. There will also be UI changes to reflect a new aesthetic and new mechanics.

7th Dragon III Code: VFD Rune-Knight Trailer

The Rune-Knight trailer has been released for 7th Dragon III Code: VFD, closing out all eight character classes. Those familiar with “magic knight” types should be able to wrap their minds around the concept of the Rune-Knight; their melee weapons are used as conduits for a variety of powerful elemental attacks as opposed to the traditional incantations or staves of most mages. The balancing of magic and physical strength is sometimes gifted to the class at the cost of being excellent in any particular offensive facet, if the knight doesn’t possess any especially powerful techniques unique to themselves. At the least, they are capable of healing allies and have high base defense! What would you do with the Rune-Knight in this game…?

Pretty flashy technique from the last Rune-Knight. That’s called overkill. Then again, it seems like overkill is an option for everybody at a certain level!

Stella Glow Alto Regnant Knight

Stella Glow: “The Knights of Regnant” Trailer

AtlusUSA is producing English trailers to promote the English release of Stella Glow. This trailer covers the “Knights of Regnant” – more specifically, the 9th regiment of the Knights which features the protagonist Alto and his squadmates Rusty, Archibald, and Klaus. Alto is a spirited young man and acts as you’d expect from a lead protagonist. Klaus is a knight commander who is even-keeled. Archibald possesses a gruff exterior and a strong sense of camaraderie and nobility. Rusty tends to have his mind more on social things than battle or politics. Collectively the Knights of Regnant are tasked with recruiting Song Witches to fight the evil Witch Hilda.

This video is important because it allows viewers to take a look at the English voice acting! Be sure to keep both eyes and ears peeled. Check it out below.

Shenmue’s Ryo Hazuki and Sakura Wars’ Ranmaru Join Project X Zone 2

Famitsu shared the latest information about Project X Zone 2’s roster. Ryo Hazuki’s inclusion was no longer a secret when the Korean preview of the game leaked his appearance. Still, we are now able to take a look at artwork and screenshots of the Shenmue hero in action as a Solo Unit. Another Sega character reveal is Ranmaru from Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. The loyal attendant of Nobunaga Oda will be an enemy unit to fight. Finally, Garigliano from Resonance of Fate will be a NPC in the story. As you can see in the screenshot gallery at the bottom of the article, he will have an amusing conversation with Segata Sanshiro.

SMTIV Final

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final for 3DS Announced

Atlus of Japan struck suddenly with the reveal of Shin Megami Tensei IV Final for Nintendo 3DS via Famitsu. It’s due for release in Japan on February 10, 2016. Contrary to what the subtitle and the name of the game might suggest, this isn’t meant to be an expanded release (in the same vein of Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker) – this is a new game set in the same world that Shin Megami Tensei IV took place in. There will be new characters, and perhaps some returning faces too.

While Persona 5 seems to have red as a recurring theme color (as do the Persona games in general) it seems that SMT IV Final is following in its stead by making liberal use of the color green. I personally like the look of mixing black and green…

There’s a preview site up right now, but nothing really in the way of content is on it. We can expect more this coming Sunday at 7PM (Japan time) when a Niconico stream featuring a more detailed reveal of the game goes live.

7th Dragon III Mage

7th Dragon III Code: VFD Mage Trailer

It’s less than two weeks until 7th Dragon III Code: VFD‘s release in Japan. With this character class trailer, seven out of eight classes have been covered. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel that one has to admire that pacing of promotional media leading up to the game’s release…

Anyway, this time we have the Mage. They’re a traditional squishy magic user class. Mages are capable of offensive magic (using the elements and arcane forces) and healing spells, so they’re at least diversified in that sense. However, they might benefit the team more by focusing on offense, depending on the usefulness of their spells. And unless they’re profoundly stronger than the enemies they’re facing, the Mage really could do with some support since their defense is lacking, so it’s a good thing 7th Dragon is party-based. They are in your care!

Project X Zone 2 Commercial

Project X Zone 2 1st Commercial, Japanese Demo and 2nd PV Coming Soon

The first Japanese commercial for Project X Zone 2, due for release on November 11th in Japan, has been published online. It’s short, but some quick new character glimpses are available (notably, of Street Fighter‘s M.Bison and Xenosaga‘s T-Elos as villains hiding in the featured image above) though nothing else can be seen.

Additionally, the official website’s blog (which receives the occasional update, sometimes even when character reveals aren’t announced) has a new entry posted on it revealing some cool items: a Japanese demo planned for the 9th of October, and announcement of the impending release of the second promotional video. The Western releases of Project X Zone did see two demos; hopefully audiences for the localized versions will also have access to demos as their release dates approach.

As for the second PV – a lot of new information is promised for this video. It’s probably the last major push possible for this game since there’s a little less than a month remaining until the game releases. So all information, including the character roster, is ideally known sooner so that people on the fence will be able to bite. I’m hoping we get as many characters in Pair Units as possible, and I’d love to hear whether or not Shenmue‘s Ryo Hazuki is part of a Pair or is a Solo Unit.

Check out the commercial after the break!

7th Dragon III Logo

7th Dragon III Code: VFD Demo Out in Japan

A couple of days ago, Sega released a demo for 7th Dragon III Code: VFD onto the Japanese eShop. It’s a limited demo; there’s no character creation and the level cap is 10 for characters, but you will be able to play through to the beginning of the first chapter (similar to the Stella Glow demo.) Additionally, character data from the demo save file can be imported into the full game when it releases, allowing you to edit your characters from the demo.

Sega, through an official 7th Dragon Twitter account also announced the release of the demo and the bonuses of demo participation in this Tweet. It’s always a nice thing to see them having a presence like this in promoting their franchises.

7th Dragon III Code: VFD is due for release in about two weeks (October 15) in Japan. Previous games in this franchise haven’t been localized. This could be the last game in the 7th Dragon series – it remains to be seen whether or not the game will be picked up for localization. The story for this game might be seen as self-contained enough to merit localizing in spite of the previous games not being brought outside of Japan.
