Daguza SMT IV Final

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final Character Video Series – Daguza

Atlus of Japan’s YouTube account will be periodically posting character videos for Shin Megami Tensei IV Final on the way to its February 10 release date. Today’s video is for Daguza. Daguza revives the protagonist and bestows him with the power to control demons. Daguza is likely not so charitable for its own sake – and in the occasional pieces of promotional images we see that Daguza is likely affiliated with the Polytheistic Alliance (Daguza makes mention of Krishna a few times near the video’s end), a group comprised of deities who unsuccessfully attempt to lobby Merkabah and Lucifer to their side. This was all in a gambit to subjugate humanity through a massive coalition of godlike beings, instead of gods warring against each other and then one victor subjugating humanity. To that end, the protagonist may be a helpful tool to the Alliance’s goal. Or he may not be…it’s up to you!

It’s rather long, at about 2:30 minutes, and the extended monologue and sprite animation is a rather unexpected direction. I rather like how Daguza is animated here. But be warned, the same revival sequence that you see once is repeated about half a dozen times, so if you don’t know Japanese you’ll have to learn to love the animation of Daguza floating around.

January 25th Sega Niconico Live Stream: Featuring Yakuza 6 Demo, Valkyria Chronicles Remaster

Sega has announced plans for another Sega niconico live broadcast set for January 25 (next Monday) at 8:55 P.M. Japan Standard Time. Scheduled for demoing are the Yakuza 6 demo and the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster for PS4.

Additionally, Yakuza Kiwami (which released today in Japan!) will be demoed, and some additional and as of yet unspecified new media/info for Shin Megami Tensei IV Final (which will release on February 10) will be discussed during this stream.

Personally I think it will be quite funny if Toshihiro Nagoshi shows up again, only to act stoic for 90% of the stream. It was strangely enjoyable the last time he did that.

Sign up for a niconico account and view the stream here when the time arrives!

Project X Zone 2 North America Demo Coming January 26

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that the demo for Project X Zone 2 is scheduled to be made available to the public for downloading on January 26 for North America. A demo release date for Europe (January 21) was announced at the end of this past year.

As far as Sega characters go, Kiryu and Majima will be a playable team unit. The demo made available to Japanese players featured three different stages, and the demo offerings (made available in two packages, “A” and “B” versions) for the original Project X Zone that Western gamers received mirrored the Japanese offering, although Europe received the demos for the game later than North America. The tables have turned this time!

Project X Zone 2 is scheduled to be released in Western territories during the late end of February.

Etrian Odyssey V

Etrian Odyssey V Silence is Broken, Near the End of Development

It has been quite some time since Etrian Odyssey V was officially announced. Since its initial announcement during the tail end of 2014, we’ve seen the release of games like Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and Etrian Mystery Dungeon. It’s been busy for Atlus since the fifth mainline title’s reveal, but Atlus of Japan recently broke their silence on Etrian Odyssey V to confirm that the game is actually at the end of the development process, in an article posted to gamestalk which references comments in the next to-be-released issue of Famitsu. It’s a strange situation and I can’t help but wonder (as I’m sure many others have done) what prompted the delay and silence; we will likely learn more later.

You can browse the official Etrian Odyssey 5 website here if you like. There’s not much else besides the first promotional trailer, though. Check out the first promotional trailer below if you missed it the first time around.

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final: New Three Minute Promotional Video

Atlus uploaded a new promotional video for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final to their Japanese YouTube account earlier this week. There’s a lot on display – some new music from the game (sounding nice, in my opinion,) new animated sequences, new dungeons and environments, and even some old faces if you manage to spot them. Brief cuts of the seven partner characters are also shown off, alongside battles and demon fusion.

Continue reading to check out the trailer. Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final is set to release on the 10th of February in Japan, but there’s no word on localization outside of Japan as of yet.

Famitsu Christmas 2015 SMT IV Final

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final: New Partner Characters Introduced

The most recent issue of Weekly Famitsu introduced more Partner characters for Shin Megami Tensei IV Final. Gaston, the new guy wearing lots of white, represents the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado’s Samurai legion (just like many of the characters in the first Shin Megami Tensei IV game.) The young man sporting grey hair and a black and yellow outfit is Hallelujah of Ashura-kai, an organization that had attempted to “coexist” with demons using some very alarming methods. And the purple and black figure with the Japanese demon mask is Toki of the Cult of Gaia. They oppose the Ashura-kai’s philosophy and espouse maximal liberty and “Rule by the Strong.”

This is a great collection of people who probably disagree heavily with each other! Gaston certainly doesn’t seem the type to play nice.

This collection of different personalities might be how one takes advantage of the multiple endings that this game is purported to offer. In any case, we’ll find out more when the game releases in Japan in February. No word on localizations yet.

Let’s Dance Bros.! Bayonetta is Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS’s Final Guest

Today marked the final Nintendo Direct dedicated to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Since the release of these two games, the development team has provided regular post-launch content support in the form of characters, stages, costumes, and balance patches.

Closing out the roster after Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife and Fire Emblem Fates’ Corrin is Sega and Platinum Games’ iconic action hero who erupted onto the gaming scene last generation: Bayonetta. Borne out of a partnership between Sega and Platinum Games at the time of release, the first Bayonetta game was widely enjoyed by consumers and critics, and a partnership between Nintendo and Platinum Games produce the second Bayonetta title.

Bayonetta’s default costume is her Bayonetta 2 look, but she’ll also have her look for the first game as an alternate palette. Each character in Smash Bros. For Wii U and 3DS has eight outfit options, and in this game a color scheme based on jeanne is selectable. Her character trailer shows off a variety of her attacks, from Bullet Arts, to the Wicked Weaves (which appear to be Smash Attacks?) and even shout-out type attacks like the After Burner Kick. She also appears to have a very unique counter, in the form of Witch Time. If she successfully dodges an opponent’s attack upon activating Witch Time, it greatly slows down the movement speed of your opponent and hinders your opponent character’s ability to defensively react or evade any retaliatory attack from Bayonetta. Other characters’ counters can be evaded much more easily in comparison, because none of them afflict anything like Witch Time.

Nintendo supports their Smash Bros. characters with Amiibos (somewhat trainable A.I. representations of a character, that come in the form of a mini-figure) and it is confirmed that Bayonetta will have Amiibos produced for her. Sometimes when she attacks in her own games, parts of her body are exposed, but this was a trait removed for this game probably with the intention of accommodating a wider audience. Alongside Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega has two representatives in this generation’s set of Smash Bros. games, and the same idea applies to Street Fighter’s Ryu and the Classic incarnation of Mega Man representing Capcom.

Don’t have the game yet? “Ask your mom.”

SMT IV Final Animated Trailer

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final’s Animated Promotional Trailer

Atlus uploaded an animated promotional trailer for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final to their Japanese YouTube account. It clocks in at a little under two minutes, and details the havoc that the continued war between deities and demons is wreaking on the human world. Let’s not forget that these powerful beings are not exactly looking to cooperate with humans either, aiming ultimately for the servitude of humanity in some form or another.

In any case, the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei IV Final is apparently at the wrong place at the wrong time during a demon attack…and yet all the same, it’s an accident that will change his life and the course of history. What that ultimately means will be up to the player.
