Valkyria Chronicles PC Patch Released
Sega has released a patch for the PC version of Valkyria Chronicles, fixing several issues that people have reported since the release of the game. Here’s the list of fixes included in the patch:
• Fixed issues with tank movement at high frame rates.
• Increased mouse sensitivity.
• Fixed issues with audio balance in stereo/5.1.
• Fixed rare crashes relating to memory allocation (e.g. when viewing unit stats in battle and exiting the HQ in book mode).
The issue with the tank movement is one that had been reported by people playing at a framerate higher than 60 frames per second. It appears this had an impact on the physics of the game, in particular for tanks which couldn’t drive up certain slopes. The mouse sensitivity is something I also noted in my first impressions article, and it’s great to see they have increased the sensitivity based on user feedback. Valkyria Chronicles on PC was already a solid PC conversion, but this patch has only made the game even better.
Sega Says Valkyria Chronicles PC Launch Is a “Phenominal Success”
We already knew the pre-orders sales for Valkyria Chronicles had been going strong, and the sales of the game only increased during the game’s launch yesterday, driving it to the top of the Steam Top Seller chart. Sega have now issued a press release to celebrate the successful launch of the game, which you can read here:
VALKYRIA CHRONICLES SMASHES ALL EXPECTATIONS TO REACH NUMBER ONE ON STEAM!
Yesterday, Valkyria Chronicles™ released for PC via digital download, and during its first 24 hours on sale blew all forecasts and predictions out of the water. The award-winning Strategy RPG, originally released in 2008 for PlayStation®3, forced its way to the top of the Steam download charts, beating a host of brand new games to reach number one.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for their support in the phenomenal success of this launch,” said John Clark, Senior Vice President of Commercial Publishing for SEGA Europe, “We’re also delighted at the response from the Steam community which indicates that newcomers to the series are finding it as enchanting and engaging as those who have played it before.”

Valkyria Chronicles PC Port: First Impressions
The PC version of Valkyria Chronicles has been unlocked on Steam today, allowing the fans (and hopefully many newcomers) to finally experience one of Sega’s best PS3 games on the PC. I’ve played through the first few missions of the game, which is just about enough to give my first impressions on the PC port. You can click on any of the images in this article to see the originals in a 1080P resolution (downsampled from 4k).
One of the first things to note about the PC version is that the loading times have been greatly reduced compared to the original game on PS3. Loading and saving also happen pretty much instantaneously. The graphics options are limited, but they provide most of the essentials. Support for various resolutions is there along with an unlocked framerate. The lack of anti-aliasing setting is somewhat surprising. This can, however, be largely overcome by using downsampling (Durante already added a Valkyria Chronicles profile to his GeDoSaTo downsampling tool) or by forcing AA in your video card settings. I personally used GeDoSaTo to downsample the game from 4k to 1080P, which provided excellent results. Some people have pointed out that there’s no borderless windowed option, but there are third-party tools available that can add that functionality.
Upcoming Sega and Atlus Games for November
November is proving to be an interesting month for Sega and Atlus fans, with plenty of games heading our way. First of all, tomorrow sees the release of Valkyria Chronicles on PC. IncGamer seem to be the first offering their impressions on the PC port, and judging from their article the port delivers exactly what Sega promised, with support for different resolutions, framerate equal to the refresh rate of your monitor and configurable mouse/keyboard support. The game is still available for pre-order on Steam with a 10% discount.
Vote for Valkyria Chronicles and Sakura Wars on PC!
We previously posted about #SegaPCPorts, a movement designed to bolster awareness of the opportunities for expanding Sega’s PC library. It’s worth noting what was initially being asked for through tweets are by and large Japanese Sega titles. Amidst an ongoing debate over title selection for the campaign, #SegaPCPorts has made its next move.
Now, a petition has been launched on change.org to ask Sega to bring more games to the PC. While there was a lot of support for the original Valkyria Chronicles to be ported to PC, and Grief.exe (who started the campaign) intended to give the game a prominent place on the petition together with Bayonetta and Vanquish, the person who ended up making the petition removed it in favor of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, arguing that converting VC would be more difficult. The game was now given a special mention at the bottom of the petition. While it’s disappointing to see this change, we still encourage all the Valkyria Chronicles fans out there to sign the petition and ask for the game in the comments, and favorite other comments mentioning the game. And while Sakura Wars wasn’t mentioned in the petition, the franchise already has games on PC, so we’d encourage fans of the franchise to sign the petition as well if they want to see the games released on platforms like Steam. Or even better, ask for both Valkyria Chronicles AND Sakura Wars! 🙂
Sega has already made clear they have taken notice of the campaign by way of their Twitter account. In response to a fan by the name of Marow, the company had this to say:
the community team is aware of the movement, but no official comment to be made at this time.
Vis-à-vis the post we made earlier on this site about Reginald Fils-Aime’s response to fan campaigns, it is nice to see Sega make direct comments on this particular fan campaign. Statements such as the one quoted above are by no means endorsements, but it is some validation to the idea there is purpose to fan campaigning at all. It should be noted that this isn’t the first time a company representative has spoken regarding this campaign. Julian Mehlfield, perhaps more commonly known by the handle clumsyorchid and a Community Manager with Sega, has directly commented on #SegaPCPorts previously. He expressed his support for the spirit of the campaign and willingness to pass it on to the relevant Sega personnel, but also asked for more care in directing comments to Sega’s own twitter (as it interferes with how Sega mines their Twitter account for information), while also aiming to keep fans’ expectations of his actions tempered.
