Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X HD Announced for Playstation 4

Sega took to the official Japanese Project DIVA blog to announce Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X HD, the Playstation 4 version of Project DIVA X for Japan. The game is due for release on August 25th. Notable details from the announcement include compatibility with Playstation VR for the purposes of the game’s Live Edit Mode, and the Snow Miku 2010~2015 Download Campaign which offers Snow Miku modules from 2010 to 2015 for free as downloadable content for a month after the game’s release, but will no longer be free after September 25th. The DLC will be available for both Vita (Project DIVA X) and PS4 (Project DIVA X HD.)

A new piece of artwork by KEI was also published to commemorate the announcement! It is used as our featured image for this article.

Project DIVA X for the Vita released a month ago in Japan. Project DIVA X is planned for release in North America for both Vita and PS4, but there’s no word on support for Europe at the moment. Hopefully that situation may change so as to better accommodate any European fans.

A new promotional trailer for Project DIVA X HD was uploaded to Sega’s YouTube channel for the Project DIVA series. It features the Cool Medley – Cyber Rock Jam. Check it out!

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir: English Oswald Trailer

Promotional trailers for Oswald from Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir hit the web not too long ago. Be sure to watch it below (uploaded to the PlayStation YouTube channel) if you haven’t gotten the chance. Oswald’s path tells the story of a talented dragon-slayer whose journey intersects with powerful dark forces after he is betrayed by his adoptive father. However his destiny also comes to overlap with the heroine Gwendolyn.

If you remember, NISAmerica is handling the publishing of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir in Europe, and this game may quite possibly the last Atlus title they work on, so far as we know. In any case, I’d like to bring to our readers’ attention the fact there are French, Italian, German, and Spanish-subtitled versions of the Oswald character trailer on NISAmerica’s YouTube channel. It’s an interesting thing to be aware of!

KOFXIV 20160425 - Steelbook bonus

The press release also reveals some interesting details, including the Classic Kyo DLC costume being free for download for a week after launch. Traditionally, Kyo’s image is associated with a black jacket (with a white shirt underneath) and black pants, but King of Fighters XIV will give him a slightly newer look. Additionally, the press statement discusses new characters including the classic SNK character Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown (another SNK fighting game franchise) and new character Shun’Ei. Fatal Fury was only the beginning – King of Fighters is absorbing all of the other SNK fighting game characters! The screenshots and press release also offer a glimpse into the Day One edition, which come in limited supply.

The first trailer is a system and gameplay overview trailer, while the second one showcases a variety of characters.

Check out all of the media below. The press release will be found at the end of this article.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Launches Aug. 23 –Pre-order/Day One Edition Details Below!

Plus, for the Week Following Launch, the Classic Kyo DLC Costume will be Free!

Oh, and Two New Videos!

The legendary KING OF FIGHTERS returns for its latest numbered entry on August 23 this year with KOFXIV. When it arrives however, players will get more than they bargained for….

…because ATLUS is creating a special Pre-order/Day One edition! Only available while supplies last as a bonus item for THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV is a collectible SteelBook™ emblazoned with the series’ fiery mainstay, Kyo Kusanagi, literally burning to fight. It’s the perfect collectible for fighting game connoisseurs who want to own a memorable piece of KOF history.

But we’re not stopping there (maybe you’re not understanding the tagline “Burn to Fight!”) because Atlus U.S.A. is ALSO making the Classic Kyo DLC costume free for the week following launch as a download on PlayStation Network!

And in case you missed it the last time around, here are the top-line refinements for THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV:

3D Evolution: All 50 fighters, movesets and more are rendered in full 3D graphics that preserves the essence of KOF’s visual style but updates it with a whole new dimension.

The Best Refinement since KOF ’98: Through extensive playtesting and balancing, the controls have been streamlined, and the Combo and Max Mode mechanics have been overhauled to create the most competitive fighter in SNK’s history.

The KOF Saga Continues: There’s a robust single-player storyline where several years have passed since the previous KOF tournament. Now a worldwide business, the global KOF will decide who is the strongest as both individuals and companies with their own ambitions have come to compete. Players compete against CPU-controlled opponents to unlock the storyline.

The Best Roster Yet: There are 50 fighters total, with 31 returning from previous entries into the KOF series, and 19 brand new characters. All 50 characters will be available at the game’s launch.

Revamped Online Experience: THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV has devoted a lot of development time to improving the game’s netcode for vastly improved online gameplay. KOF XIV uses the PS4’s online architecture to have a whole host of online conveniences, from spectating to saving replay/battle data, and having a single online KOF XIV profile to connect with friends.

The game will be $59.99/CA$79.99 at launch.

PLUS, we have two new trailers! There’s a new video that will touch on the game’s systems – from the traditional 3 on 3 combat to the all-new online Party Battle! It sets the stage for the KOF saga that’s about to unfold! Second, is a new character video! Some hawk-eyed press may even recognize a few SNK favorites, including Nakoruru from the Samurai Showdown series! On the other hand, you’ve got the brand new character Shun’Ei. What will his role in the game be? Find out when it releases on Aug. 23!

Valkyria: Azure Revolution – The Reveal of “The Circle of Five”?

I would like to begin this article by pointing our readers to a particular image from the title art of Valkyria: Azure Revolution.

Valkyria Azure Revolution LogoHere lie the “circle of five”, whose vengeful actions brought forth an inferno of war. With their execution, the blood of the brave legions is redeemed, and a just peace born. They rest eternally in the land of their birth, by the grace of the Holy Mother.

This was initially presented to us as something without context, but with the reveal of four new characters, the plot just got a little more interesting.

Introducing the Five Grand Criminals. They are a group who is identified within the mythology of Azure Revolution as coming to posses great power (in some form or another) during the war against the Rus Empire. One of the five is Amleth, the main character who is renowned for his combat ability.

The rest of the five all acquired a name for various forms of non-military power.

Suleiman Kahlenberg, a man of numbers and stoic composure, for his political skill and influence in government. Basil Sabanci. Basil Sabanci, a man with a charming and disarming personality (and very intense taste in fashion,) who inherits a factory from his stepfather and uses the money from the company he grew to success to finance war against Rus. Fleet Ericksen, a man with a soft demeanor who assumes a position of power within news media as a voice to influence public sentiment. Violet Szand, a spy who uses her good looks to acquire intelligence for the Five, and whom also fabricates information for the enemy so that Jutland Kingdom can profit from it.

If we refer back to the quote from the title card, it seems history after the Revolution paints the Five in a negative light. It would also suggest that Amleth’s existence was erased (whether by death, or simply not being able to live in the public eye.) Why does a group that purportedly fought on behalf of the Jutland Kingdom receive such disdain from its historians?

Because the Five instigated a war with the Rus Empire all the while plotting some sort of act of treason against the Jutland princess, Ophelia. But the next question is – if they acquired so much power during the course of the Revolution, how did they come to lose it? Especially the social and political power from the media and government. How did the Jutland Kingdom come to turn against the Five? And how close is Amleth to the other Five?

Names, images, and profile descriptions are from this Siliconera article.

Racing Miku 2016 - Screenshot 2

“Racing Miku 2016” DLC Module Added to Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X

SEGA of Japan made a bit of a surprise announcement today, as it revealed that a new “Racing Miku 2016 Ver.” module, based on Good Smile’s latest Racing Miku 2016 costume design, will be added as paid DLC to Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X. The module will cost 300 yen (tax not included) and will be available on the Japanese PlayStation Network on April 28. The announcement is surprising since the last “Racing Miku” module to be added to a Project DIVA game was the 2012 version. Since then, none of the yearly Racing Miku designs (2013 to 2015) were added to the Project DIVA games. Take a look at the 3 screenshots provided by SEGA of Japan below! Hopefully, the module will also make its way to the West when the game is released in the Americas later this Fall.
