(Updated, 9/18/2014!) Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX Coming to Japan as Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe

At the end of last year, Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 for the 3DS was released in Japan. We had not heard anything about localization of this game until a couple of months ago when Sega announced that the game would be localized for the West in 2015, with the working title Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Remix. Remix is going to add new features and content not available in Mirai 2, though they are to be specified in the future. Hatsune Miku fansite mikufan does mention that it is confirmed the game will feature new 3D promotional and opening videos composed by PinocchioP.

This week’s Famitsu announced that Remix’s updates will be released in Japan as Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe. Remix and Deluxe will be the same game released in different territories. Deluxe will also be featured at Tokyo Game Show 2014. A Spring 2015 release is planned for the game.

It is remarkable that apparently the expanded remake of Project Mirai 2, which already released in Japan, was so demanded in Japan that the country is receiving the requested re-release. Perhaps it’s a display of the commercial strength of the franchise, which recently crossed 2.5 million units in sales according to Sega.

Update: A new Sega blog entry has confirmed that the previous working title of Project Mirai Remix is now officially changed to Project Mirai DX for the West. Be sure to check out the blog entry for new screenshots of the game!

Update 2: An edit to this mikufan blog entry strongly suggests that there is no second Hatsune Miku game from Sega to announce, and that Deluxe was the new title to be introduced at TGS. We appreciate their help with this matter, and apologize for any possible misinformation on our end!

Sega and Atlus’s Tokyo Game Show 2014 Lineup Announced

We now have confirmation about Sega and Atlus’s lineup at Tokyo Game Show 2014, and which titles will be playable. This article will cover games that are not under the banner of Segalization’s localization requests and will simply present the entirety of Sega and Atlus’s offerings.

Please be aware that Sega and Atlus will also be holding stage events and broadcast streams throughout the weekend of Tokyo Game Show, which you can find near the end of the article! Italicized games are titles that currently have localizations planned for them, for reader convenience, but keep in mind that localization status is still a tentative thing. Here is a list of what can be expected:

Playable from Sega:

  • Phantasy Star Nova (Vita)
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris (PS4, One)
  • Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax (Vita, PS3)
  • Hero Bank 2 (3DS)
  • Sonic Toon: Rise of Lyric (Wii U, known as Sonic Boom in the West instead of Sonic Toon)
  • Sonic Toon: Shattered Crystal (3DS, known as Sonic Boom in the West instead of Sonic Toon)

Promotional Trailers from Sega:

  • Phantasy Star Online 2 (PC, Vita)
  • Phantasy Star Nova (Vita)
  • Yakuza Zero (PS3, PS4)
  • Shining Resonance (PS3)
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris (PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PS4, One)
  • Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax (Vita, PS3)
  • Hero Bank 2 (3DS)
  • Sonic Toon: Rise of Lyric (Wii U, known as Sonic Boom in the West instead of Sonic Toon)
  • Sonic Toon: Shattered Crystal (3DS, known as Sonic Boom in the West instead of Sonic Toon)
  • The World End Eclipse (PC, Vita, iOS, Android)

Promotional Trailers from Atlus:

  • Etrian Odyssey II Untold: The Knight of Fafnir

Stage Events from Sega and Atlus, scheduled according to Japan Standard Time:

  • Phantasy Star Nova presentation (9/18, 12pm)
  • Yakuza Zero presentation (9/18, 1pm)
  • Hatsune Miku Project new title presentation (9/18, 3pm) (update: this was Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe, an expansion of Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2)
  • Phantasy Star Online 2 presentation (9/19, 3:30pm)
  • Phantasy Star Nova live demo playthrough (9/20, 2pm, different from recently released Battle Demo)
  • Atlus presentation (9/20, 2:30pm)
  • Shining Resonance live gameplay presentation (9/21, 3pm)

To speak for myself, the lineup that Sega is presenting is especially strong this year. A sizable portion of their prominent active franchises in Japan are being represented with Phantasy Star, Yakuza, Shining, and Hatsune Miku. We are also seeing a push for Sonic Boom in Japan too. Besides the representation for major IP’s, newer franchises such as Hero Bank and The World End Eclipse are being promoted. In addition, Puyo Puyo Tetris and Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax should have broad appeal: the former for its accessibility and crossover novelty and the latter for being a crossover fighter featuring popular characters. The real wildcard here is Atlus and their presentation on the 20th. Hopefully they will have more to offer regarding Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem! I am also excited to finally see what Shining Resonance looks like in action.

Kudos to this Gematsu article and this NeoGAF thread, and additional thanks to the topic creator of the NeoGAF thread for translated descriptions and scheduling of stage events. Kudos also to the PSUBlog for the entry linked in the description on the Phantasy Star Nova live demo presentation.

Update, 9/18/2014: Edited to reflect that there is very likely no additional Hatsune Miku game announcement besides Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd release date and pre-order bonus announced

SEGA has revealed that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd will be launched on November 18th in North and Latin America, while other regions the game is planned to release in will receive the game on November 21st. As a reminder, both versions of the game will be available digitally and in retail and unlike the import version the game will also contain English lyrics as an option. Players will now be able to toggle between Japanese lyric, romaji, and English lyric display options.

Those who pre-order at select stores will receive the Americana module, themed with the United States red, white and blue motif. If you pre-order from Gamestop, you will also receive the Extra Character Pack DLC which features Akita Neru, Yowane Haku, and Kasane Teto. If you previously bought this DLC for the original Project Diva F (or Project Diva f), you will also be able to obtain these characters for free.

Phantasy Star Online 2’s Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka Concert

You are all invited to Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka’s next concert! No price of admission – all you need is one Phantasy Star Online 2 account with access to the Japanese version of the game. It’s going to be a short performance, featuring just one song: Living Universe, better known as the opening song for Phantasy Star Portable 2.

Where: ARKS Lobby

When: July 23

Free goodies promised for attendees, including two hour rare drop, money, and experience boosts. The concert is meant to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Project DIVA series, as the first Project DIVA game was released in July of 2009.

note: by the way, according to the PSUBlog, Phantasy Star Online 2 is now fully operational and is working as it was prior to the recent server attack. Apparently compensation of sorts was doled out for those who were unable to play due to the DDoS attack, available to characters made prior to a certain date.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd Gets English Lyric Translations!

Sega announced that Project Diva F 2nd will be getting an English translation for the song lyrics, a feature that was often requested by fans ever since the first Project Diva F was localized and only had the lyrics available in romaji (the original Japanese lyrics written in Latin alphabet). There are plenty of people who play the Project Diva games but don’t know Japanese, so this feature not only allows them to understand the lyrics but it also adds much needed context to the music videos shown in the background during gameplay.

Atlus and Sega Games at Anime Expo

Both Sega and Atlus will be present at the upcoming Anime Expo (this week, July 3-6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center), with Atlus showing their upcoming Persona games and Sega showing Project DIVA F 2nd. Although Aaron Webber’s departure from Sega means he won’t be at the expo, Sam Mullen confirmed he will be there to welcome the fans. Earlier on, Aaron Webber did hint they may have a special surprise regarding Project DIVA F 2nd at the expo. It seems that surprise might be the following announcement for a Project Diva F tournament at the Sega booth where you can win tickets for the Hatsune Miku Expo in LA. Continue reading »

Aaron Webber Leaves Sega

Sad news today as Aaron Webber (aka RubyEclipse) announced that he will be leaving Sega of America. In the blog post Aaron mentioned he will once again pursue his dreams, but this time in a new direction outside of the gaming industry. More recently, Aaron had been hard at work promoting, among other Sega games, the upcoming Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd, a game we obviously hope will be a success for Sega. We wish Aaron all the best in his future endeavors.

Aaron Webber

Aaron leaves Sega with an announcement of his new (possibly fictional) game, Big’s Big Fishing Adventure 3.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd E3 Stage Demo

Gamespot have published a new video showing a stage demo of Project Diva F 2nd, and Sega’s Aaron Webber was there to tell people more about the game. And if you had any doubt that he really wants you to play this game, just watch the video. Aaron talked to the viewers directly, and asked people that only ever play the more well-known FPS games to broaden their horizons a bit and give games like Project Diva F 2nd a chance. Of course, that’s a message that we at Segalization can get behind!

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd E3 Trailer

With E3 2014 well underway, Sega have released a new trailer for the English version of Project Diva F 2nd which you can see below:

Hatsune Miku Project DIVA F 2nd E3 Trailer

Project Diva F 2nd is currently set for a release on PS3 and PS Vita in North America and Europe this fall. Sega also released some more screenshots on their flickr album, and over at SEGAbits, nuckles87 posted a preview of the game at E3, which you can read here.

Sega & Atlus Games Lineup at E3

E3 is about to begin, so we thought it would be worth taking a look at what games Sega and Atlus will be showing there. First off, here’s Sega’s lineup:

  • Alien Isolation (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
  • Sonic Boom (Wii U, 3DS)
  • Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2nd (PS3, PS Vita)

Although it’s a small lineup, the games featured there aren’t exactly small titles. Alien Isolation and Sonic Boom are both big-budget AAA games, which we hope will turn out to be a success for Sega. After the disappointing reviews for Aliens: Colonial Marines and Sonic Lost World, the fans of both franchises will be looking closely to see if The Creative Assembly, Sanzaru and Big Red Button Entertainment can do better than the studios that worked on the previous games.
