English Yakuza Webpage Online, New Yakuza 5 Release Date Window Hinted

TojoHQ, a Yakuza fansite, recently noticed the return of the official English Sega webpage for the Yakuza franchise. After proceeding past the age-gate, visitors can check out the profile pages for the Yakuza games that have been released in the West or are going to be released in the West. Do so by visiting the Games category at the top of the site.

Among those games is the game that is chronologically the latest in the franchise – Yakuza 5. It has its own page, and curiously a release window is mentioned on the website.

Fall 2015.

It’s been a while since we’ve had word on the localization status or any further release updates on Yakuza 5 since its localization was confirmed. It’s nice to see the game receiving attention again, although considering that the original release window was scheduled Summer 2015, the news is not entirely without some misfortune.

It’ll be interesting to see what Sega and Sony have planned next for Yakuza 5. As you may be aware, Gio Corsi of Sony’s Third Party Productions recently traveled to Japan to conduct an interview with Yakuza 5 development team (including Toshihiro Nagoshi) and was planning to release a video production of this interview – perhaps we may see this in the future?

Yakuza Series Reaches 7.5 Million in Global Sales

Congratulations to Sega! Yakuza series will be ten years old this year (original Japanese release was on December 10th) and the franchise has sold 7.5 million in total global sales, according to Gematsu and Games Talk. This is a good milestone considering those of us outside of Japan have missed a few entries and are now catching up with Yakuza 5. It’s a strong property for Sega in Japan overall. Meanwhile, Yakuza 0 has sold 500,000 copies in Japan and Asia territories since March 12th.

Sony’s Gio Corsi Taking Questions for Yakuza 5 Interview

Gio Corsi of Third Party Productions & Developer Relations at Sony will be taking question submissions via his Twitter account until April 3rd, which is next week Friday. He plans to take some of the questions with him to an interview with the creators of Yakuza 5 at Sega.

To make your suggestion, use the #Yakuza5PS hashtag and tweet at him! There are no guarantees any one question will be used, but it is a chance to ask something that’s on your mind.

Yakuza 5 is set to release on PSN in the West this summer.

Sega & Sony Announce the Launch of Yakuza 5 for U.S. and Europe!

At the Playstation Experience conference, Sega and Sony have announced that Yakuza 5 will be coming to the U.S. and Europe! You can read more details on the Sega blog post. Yakuza 4 and Yakuza: Dead Souls will also be made available on the PlayStation Network starting today. Sony’s Third Party Production team, which got a lot of request for the localization of Yakuza 5 from Sega fans, will apparently be involved in bringing the titles overseas. The blog post mentions that “Yakuza 5 will be available exclusive to PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network in 2015”, so it’s not clear if it will be getting a retail release. But the fact that the game is being localized at all at this point in time is great news either way. We’ll of course be posting more details as they become available!

EDIT: Launch trailer can be watched below.

Fans Start “Day of the Dragon” Campaign to Convince Sega to bring Yakuza Games to the West

Over at the official Yakuza games forum, user king_ruckus is asking support for a “Day of the Dragon” initiative. The idea is to send letters to Sega (arriving around the 8th of August) asking them to localize the Yakuza games. Of course, we at Segalization are happy to spread the word! Here’s king_ruckus’s message to Yakuza fans:

It’s 2014 and Ryu Ga Gotoku 5(Yakuza 5) still hasn’t made its way outside of Japan. Help us reach out to SEGA in a meaningful way and show them that we still want this series.

Description:

Our goal is send at least 1,000 unique letters to SEGA’s main office in America on or around the “Day of the Dragon”, 8/8/2014.

Taking part in this campaign is EASY. Just have something ready to mail to the following address the week of 8/8/2014:

SEGA of America, Inc.
350 Rhode Island Street
Suite 400
San Francisco, CA 94103
USA

Your letter can be anything you want. Keep it simple or let loose, your choice. The important thing is to send something in to let SEGA know you still want more of this series!

This is an M-Rated, niche title. The Yakuza series really needs YOUR help to continue. Please take a few minutes out of your day and show some meaningful support.

If you’d also like to mail letters to the Japan or London offices, those addresses follow:

Japan:

SEGA Corporate
1-2-12 Haneda
Ohta-ku
Tokyo 144-8531
Japan

London:

SEGA Europe Ltd.
27 Great West Road
Brentford
Middlesex
TW8 9BW
United Kingdom

Be sure to like the Facebook page! Help spread the word on Twitter with #BringYakuzaWest and #DayOftheDragon! If you have a YouTube channel, make a video promoting this campaign! We can reach 1,000 fans easy if we work together to make it happen!

You can find their Facebook page here. User SonsOfOcelot has also made a Youtube video to promote the campaign.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd E3 Stage Demo

Gamespot have published a new video showing a stage demo of Project Diva F 2nd, and Sega’s Aaron Webber was there to tell people more about the game. And if you had any doubt that he really wants you to play this game, just watch the video. Aaron talked to the viewers directly, and asked people that only ever play the more well-known FPS games to broaden their horizons a bit and give games like Project Diva F 2nd a chance. Of course, that’s a message that we at Segalization can get behind!

EGM Rumor: Possible Yakuza 5 Localization by Atlus! (Updated)

While this is certainly just a rumor at this point, EGM’s latest issue reports that Atlus may be gearing up to localize Yakuza 5. This would certainly be very big news for us and all the Yakuza fans out there still waiting to see the game localized. It would also be the first time we see Atlus work on localizing a Sega IP after Sega-Sammy acquired the company last year. Atlus has been quite successful in the past with their game localizations, so we know the company has what it takes to bring the game to the West.

Atlus to the resue?

Atlus to the rescue?

In an interview around September last year, Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned that their team simply didn’t have the manpower available to work on both localizing Yakuza 5 and developing Yakuza Ishin. Since then the takeover of Index Corporation by Sega-Sammy has been completed, and it’s worth noting that Nagoshi also joined the board of directors of the newly acquired company.

But before we go theorizing about what this news would mean for Yakuza 5 and other yet-to-be-localized Sega games, let’s remember that EGM’s rumor section is basically the only source for the news we have right now, so we shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet! That said, if this rumor does turn out to be true, there are certainly some very interesting times ahead!

Thanks to our friends at Segabits for the news.

Update: According to a NeoGAF post from Jason Schreier of Kotaku, Atlus USA is unaware of any plans for them to localize Yakuza 5.

It is worth noting that EGM, under the Q-Mann name, has trafficked in rumors that have later been debunked, among them a port of Virtua Cop to the Wii.
